UST and AST Decommissioning
Leaking underground and above ground storage tanks can be a costly liability for many owners. While regulations vary from province to province, all abandoned USTs in Ontario must be re-instated with upgrades or decommissioned. Furthermore, if a UST has been out of use for a period greater than two years and there are no plans for use, it must be decommissioned and any contaminated soil surrounding the UST removed and disposed of in accordance with the regulations.
Tri-Phase has removed hundreds of storage tanks in its 12 years of business, containing both hazardous and non-hazardous fuels and/or chemicals. We are a TSSA licensed PM-2 contractor, a designation that is required by law to remove tanks. In addition to removal and disposal of tanks and associated piping, we excavate and dispose of any contaminated soil surrounding the tank and restore the site to its original condition. We will also arrange and complete all administrative requirements set forth by the regulatory agencies governing tank removal and waste disposal.
Removing tanks is not a simple task; you need a licensed and experienced contractor to perform the work. Depending on the location of the tank (i.e. proximity to sidewalks, buried utility lines, etc.), bracing or shoring may be required. Accordingly, we implement and execute a site specific health and safety and work plan that outlines the exact procedures that need to be followed due to the sensitive nature of the work.
